Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 5 604 new Covid-19 infections and 41 new Covid-19 related deaths, the National Department of Health said on Sunday.
This brings the cumulative number of positive cases to 3 413 540 since the pandemic hit the country last year.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 413 540 with 5 604 new cases reported. Today 41 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 90 814 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 111 957 with a recovery rate of 91,2%,” the department said in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 20 570 tests were conducted with a 27.2% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases are from the Western Cape (1 565), KwaZulu-Natal (1 459), and Gauteng (956).
