Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 4 515 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 429 498 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday.
A total of 94 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 94 491 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 590 399 with 4 515 new cases reported. Today 94 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 94 491 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 429 498 with a recovery rate of 95.5%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 42 686 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 10.6%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (1 376), followed by Western Cape (645), and KwaZulu-Natal (567).
“42 686 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 4 514 new cases, representing an 10.6% positivity rate. Today, @HealthZA reports 94 deaths, of which 20 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 94 491 to date,” NICD said.
