Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 3 962 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 572 860 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
A further 139 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 93 846 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 572 860 with 3 962 new cases reported. Today 139 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 93 846 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 394 527 with a recovery rate of 95%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 37 484 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 10.6%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (928), followed by Western Cape (813), and KwaZulu-Natal (681).
“A total of 37 484 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 3 962 new cases, representing a 10.6% positivity rate. A further 31 #Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 93 846 to date,” NICD said.

“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of #Covid-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 139 deaths and of these, 31 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 93 846 to date,” the health department said.
