Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 3 699 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 648 968 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday.
A total of 89 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 97 520 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 648 968 with 3 699 new cases reported. Today 89 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 97 520 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 513 078 with a recovery rate of 96.3%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 38 133 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 9.7%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (1 328), followed by Western Cape (636), and KwaZulu-Natal (458).
“38 133 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 3,699 new cases, representing a 9.7% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 89 deaths; of which 7 occurred in the past 24–48 hours. Total fatalities are 97 520 to date,” NICD said.
