Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 3 658 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Tuesday.
This brings the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 564 578 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019.
A further 100 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 93 551 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 564 578 with 3 658 new cases reported. Today 100 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 93 551 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 380 374 with a recovery rate of 94.8%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 39 654 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 9.2%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (814), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (794), and Western Cape (745).

“Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of Covid-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 100 deaths and of these, 30 occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours,” the health department said in a statement.
