Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 3 628 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 631 642 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday.
At least 213 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 96 502 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 631 642 with 3 628 new cases reported. Today 213 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 96 502 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 491 626 with a recovery rate of 96.1%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 39 376tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 9.2%.
The majority of new cases were from Gauteng (34%), followed by Western Cape (15%) and KwaZulu-Natal (14%).
“39 376 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 3 628 new cases, representing a 9.2% positivity rate. Today, @HealthZA reports 213 deaths, of which 22 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 96 502 to date,” NICD said.
