Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 3 342 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 603 856 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Sunday.
A total of 117 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 95 022 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 603 856 with 3 342 new cases reported. Today 117 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 95 022 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 443 535 with a recovery rate of 95.6%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 23 347 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 9.5%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (756), followed by Western Cape (351), and Mpumalanga (276).
“23 347 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 2,226 new cases, representing an 9.5% positivity rate. Today, @HealthZA reports 117 deaths, of which 15 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 95 022 to date,” NICD said.
