Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 3 118 new Covid-19 infections and 110 new Covid-19 related deaths, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
This brings the cumulative number of positive cases to 3 665 149 since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 665 149 with 3 118 new cases reported. Today 110 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 98 978 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 531 960 with a recovery rate of 96.4%,” the department said in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 35 870 tests were conducted with an 8.7% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases are from Gauteng (1 114), Western Cape (658), and KwaZulu-Natal (463).
