Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 13 143 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the country’s cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 3 051 222, the National Department of Health said on Tuesday.
A total number of 52 890 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 24.9%.
The department said 27 deaths were reported, bringing the total to 90 002 deaths since the virus’s outbreak in March last year.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 051 222 with 13 143 new cases reported. Today 27 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 90 002 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 2 864 648 with a recovery rate of 93,9%.” the department said in a statement.

Gauteng continued to account for the majority of new cases, with 8 445 infections, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (1 396), Western Cape (356), and Mpumalanga (805).
At the least was the Nothern Cape with only 88 new recorded cases.
