Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 1 752 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 623 962 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Sunday.
A total of 18 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 95 835 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 623 962 with 1 752 new cases reported. Today 18 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 95 835 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 480 249 with a recovery rate of 96%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 21 800 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 8.0%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (604), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (291), and Western Cape (263).
“21 800 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 752 new cases, representing an 8.0% positivity rate. Today, @HealthZA reports 18 deaths, of which 8 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 95,835 to date,” NICD said.
