Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 1 648 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 696 823 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Tuesday.
A total of 2 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 99 727 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 696 823 with 1 648 new cases reported. Today 2 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 727 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 578 877 with a recovery rate of 96.8%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 28 320 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 5.2%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (642), followed by Western Cape (362), and KwaZulu-Natal (275).
“28 320 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 461 new cases, which represents a 5.2% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 1 deaths in the past 24–48 hrs. Total fatalities are 99, 727 to date,” NICD says.
