Cape Town – South Africa recorded 1 558 new Covid-19 infections on Friday after 29 331 tests were conducted, said the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD).
This increase represents a positivity rate of 5.3%.
A further 38 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 99 868.
“29 331 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1 558 new cases, representing a 5.3% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 39 deaths; of these 6 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. Total fatalities are 99 868 to date,” said the NICD in a statement.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in the country now stands at 3 702 042.
The majority of cases reported in the last 24 hours were from Gauteng with 563 newly recorded cases, followed by Western Cape (439), and KwaZulu-Natal(281).
