Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 1 393 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 707 089 since the pandemic hit the country in 2020, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday.
A total of 6 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 99 899 to date, the department said.
“As of today, the cumulative number of #Covid-19 cases identified in SA is 3 707 089 with 1 393 new cases reported. Today 06 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 99 899 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stands at 3 594 194 with a recovery rate of 97.0%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 24 453 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 5.7%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (480), followed by Western Cape (348), and KwaZulu-Natal (303).
