Cape Town – South Africa has recorded 1 094 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the accumulative number of new Covid-19 cases to 3 642 905 since the pandemic hit the country in 2019, the National Department of Health said on Monday.
A total of 57 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing total fatalities to 97 250 to date, the department said.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 642 905 with 1 094 new cases reported. Today 57 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 97 250 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 508 249 with a recovery rate of 96.3%,” said the health department in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 15 930 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 6.9%.
Of the new cases, the most were in Gauteng (482), followed by Western Cape (170), and KwaZulu-Natal (138).
“15 930 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 1,094 new cases, representing a 6.9% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 257 deaths; of which 3 occurred in the past 24–48 hours, bringing total fatalities to 97 250,” NICD said.
