Cape Town – Siya Kolisi, the Springbok World Cup-winning captain, has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2024.
Kolisi, known for leading South Africa to victory in the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups, is recognised as an “Innovator” for his impact on the sport and his role in inspiring hope in South Africa.
“These are the people who we believe most changed the stories that define the past year,” Time explained its selection process for the list
Kolisi has been praised for his wisdom, humility, and leadership.
Kolisi’s inclusion in the list marks his immense contribution to South Africa, with his leadership transcending rugby.
“Being named to the TIME100 list is an incredible honour, one that deeply humbles me,” he said, according to SA Magazine.
“It’s a profound responsibility to stand alongside individuals who dedicate their lives to enriching others. This recognition isn’t just for me; it reflects the numerous individuals and communities who have poured into me and shaped me to be person I am and am becoming.
“I’m grateful to TIME for highlighting the importance of compassion and service in our world.”
Previous South African TIME100 list honorees include runner Caster Semenya in 2019, comedian Trevor Noah in 2018, and AIDS researcher Professor Glenda Grey in 2017.
