Cape Town — The six suspects accused on murdering former Kaizer Chiefs player, Luke Fleurs, appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court for the first time on Friday.
The six suspects – Ndumiso Moswane, 26, Fernando Siva, 25, Nhlakanipho Dlamini, 21, Franky Xaba, 25, Maredi Mphahlele, 36, and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu, 31 – have been charged with murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the ends of justice, SowetanLive reported.
The court proceedings have been postponed to Friday 19 April with all suspects expected to appeal for bail when they appear in court again, with all of them also oipting for the services of Legal Aid lawyers. State prosecutor, Arnold Limekhaya, said the state intends to oppose the bail applications.

As reported by The Citizen, the suspects will remain in custody until their next court appearance, with National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, not saying whether the suspects had any previous connections. She said investigations were still ongoing, saying the case was still at its early stages.
“The appetite is there to oppose their release on bail,” she added. It is alleged that part of a syndicate behind car hijackings in Gauteng and polcie have not ruled out any further arrests.
Fleurs was ambushed while waiting for assistance at a petrol station on 14th Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter in Honeydew on 3 April. He was confronted by two armed suspects who arrived in a white BMW 1 Series. The men pointed Fleurs with a firearm before shooting him once on the upper body outside of his red VW Golf 8 GTI.
