Cape Town – A 40-year-old man reportedly shot dead two patients and one police officer at Somerset Hospital in Cape Town on Saturday.
According to The Citizen, a Sea Point police had taken a suspect to the hospital for medical attention.
Upon arrival, he was met with the unexpected. A man in the ward grabbed his firearm and shot him in the head before shooting two other patients.
The patients died on the scene, while the police officer was left seriously wounded.
He was admitted to the hospital but unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries, the police confirmed in a statement.
“Saps officials on the scene subsequently disarmed the suspect and arrested him. The identities of the victims of the shooting incident are yet to be determined,” The Citizen quoted the police as saying in a statement.
The motive of the shooting is not known yet.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident is underway.
