Cape Town – A 61-year-old woman was reportedly shot and killed in Manenberg, Cape Town on Friday while on her way to work.
According to News24, the woman was a staff member at Primrose Park Primary School, Manenberg. She was around 100 metres from the entrance to the school when the incident happened around 07:15.
A murder case was opened for investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remained unknown.
However, Manenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Vernon Visagie said shootings and specifically gang-related crime had become a common practice in the area.

The deceased had been at the school for more than 20 years, according to SABC.
Following the incident, learners and staff at the school were receiving counselling.
“The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has arranged for counselling support for learners and staff. The motive of the shooting is unknown. The incident happened while travelling to school, and not within the school property which has been incorrectly reported,” said Western Cape Education Department Spokesperson Bronagh Hammond as quoted by the report.
