Cape Town – The lead investigator in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, has testified that two of the accused confirmed to police that Kelly Khumalo was the mastermind behind the murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
According to EWN, the revelation came on Wednesday during a trial within a trial to determine the admissibility of confession statements by the accused.
The five men are being tried for the 2014 murder of Meyiwa at Khumalo’s home, who was his girlfriend at the time.
One of the accused, in his confession, explicitly implicated Khumalo as the person who instructed them to kill Meyiwa, providing details of the planning and execution of the crime.
Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, the attorney representing two of the accused, asked Gininda to read a statement during the trial, unveiling a significant revelation.
“In this confession, he clearly implicates Ms Kelly Khumalo as the person who gave them the instruction to kill Senzo Meyiwa. The suspect further made a formal pointing out, pointing out the sing collection prior to the incident, the gathering outside of the house during the assassination and the dropping off of the accused at the cell phone tower referred to here in above.”

The court is conducting a trial within a trial to assess the admissibility of confessions reportedly made by Sibiya and accused number two, Bongani Ntanzi, who allege they were coerced into confessing to the murder of the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, IOL reported.
Kelly’s involvement was previously noted when cellphone expert Colonel Lambertus Steyn testified about her contact with accused number five, Fisokuhle Ntuli.
Steyn revealed two calls between them on August 2, 2014, and October 15, 2014, preceding Meyiwa’s murder on October 26, 2014.
He also presented evidence from the cellphone of accused number three, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, confirming his identity as the individual with dreadlocks, the report said.
Images downloaded from Mncube’s cellphone showed him with dreadlocks on the day of Meyiwa’s murder, wearing the same clothes as alleged in the crime.
Witnesses testified about an intruder with dreadlocks.
Sibiya, in his confession, claimed he was outside when Meyiwa was killed.
The trial continues with lead investigator Gininda undergoing cross-examination.
