Cape Town — Sekhukhune United footballer, Shaune Mogaila, made his first court appearance to make a formal bail application against the charges levelled against him.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed that Mogaila faces charges that stemmed from an alleged reckless driving incident that tragically claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Mogaila handed himself over to the police after the tragic incident. In a video that trended on social media, Mogaila’s vehicle was driving recklessly when it veered across to the other side of the road and collided head-on with a woman carrying another adult passenger and two children.

The nine-year-old girl passed away while a 13-year-old boy suffered serious injuries. Mogaila currently faces charges of reckless driving, fleeing the scene and culpable homicide.
“The court granted Mogaila R20 000 bail, and he is due back in court on 4 February 2025. as investigations continue,” the NPA’s Phindi Mjonondwane said.
Sekhukhune United released a statement following the news of the incident involving Mogaila. The club conveyed condolences to the family of the young girl who lost her life, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured in the accident, however the club declined to comment further on the matter.
