Cape Town — Serial rapist, Nkosinathi Phakathi was sentenced to 42 life terms for rape and 791 years of imprisonment for kidnapping, coercing a minor to witness a sexual act, sexual assault and theft.
Phakathi appeared in the Johannesburg High Court in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Friday. He was convicted of 90 counts of rape and other charges as well. Judge Lesego Makolomakwe described Phakathi as a dangerous predator who is a threat to society and was declared beyond rehabilitation, EWN reported.
He was placed on the National Register for Sex Offenders and the National Child Protection Register and will begin serving his sentence on Friday.
According to The Citizen, Phakathi initially faced 203 charges, but 55 minor charges were withdrawn. He pleaded guilty to the remaining 148 charges.
He committed his brutal acts in the Ekurhuleni area between 2012 and 2021 and preyed mostly on school children, with his youngest victim being nine years old and the oldest being a 44-year-old female.
