Cape Town — One of the co-suspects in the murder of former goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, claimed he received death threats from his co-accused, after the murder was carried out.
Bongani Ntanzi has been classified as accused number two throughout the trial, and in his latest court appearance on Monday, he had his second confession statement read out by Magistrate Vivian Cronje. Cronje was back in the witness stand, reading out Ntanzi’s confession, which revealed how all five accused were involved in the murder of Meyiwa, The Citizen said.
In the introduction, Ntanzi said he was happy to make the confession, but claimed he needed protection as he was scared of his co-accused.
“I was already pointed with a finger as a warning when this thing was done, and I was still a young boy. I’m not sure where else in Gauteng they have been arrested.” Ntanzi said.
He also went into further details about the events of the night Meyiwa died, detailing the role each of the accused had to play in the murder. Ntanzi and accused number, Carlos Mncube, were the two who entered the house.

According to Ntanzi, the former Bafana Bafana captain took a chair and hit Mncube with it during the scuffle – a detail that was not mentioned in his first confession statement. Mncube allegeldy fired two shots that killed Meyiwa. Ntanzi said the threats continued even after they had left the scene.
“Carlos pointed to Sifiso and said he must warn me if any word comes out that they were involved he would kill me. Carlos and Sifiso ordered me to go to the kitchen.” he said.
“During the drive to the stop, Carlos kept pointing his finger at me, threatening me. He was also swearing because I was visibly frightened.” he continued.
“I am telling you, you will s**t. A deal is a deal. He also said if he hears anything he will kill me. He doesn’t know my parental home but [Sibiya] knows and he will show him.” Ntanzi added.
Legal analyst Melusi Xulu says the state may find it tricky to gather evidence leading to the arrest of Kelly Khumalo for the alleged plot to kill #SenzoMeyiwa.
