Cape Town — The Magistrate in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has dismissed the claims of one of Meyiwa’s killers — Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya — as “outrageous”.
Sibiya is one of five men who was charged with Meyiwa’s murder in 2014. He was convicted on Tuesday of possession of drugs and ammunition in the Tembisa Magistrates Court, with charges dating back to 2019 and 2020, EWN reported.
He was initially arrested in 2019 for having 10 bags of drugs on him. He was released and later re-arrested in May 2020 when he was found with live rounds of ammunition in his shack.
That same day, he allegedly confessed to Senzo Meyiwa’s murder and signed a confession statement at the Diepkloof Police Station.

According to The Daily Sun, Magistrate Jerome Josephs, recounted that Sibiya denied ever having drugs or ammunition on his person, and that he was only arrested to be questioned for Meyiwa’s murder.
“The court finds this explanation to be outrageous for the mere fact that the unit that Constables Mudau and Baloyi were had nothing to do with the Meyiwa case,” Josephs said.
“Those police officers had nothing to do with the investigation into the murder. They had no information regarding the murder of Senzo Meyiwa,” he added.
Josephs said the version of the prosecution witnesses was and is irreconcilable with the version of the accused. He added that there was a factual dispute between the version the accused gave and that of the state witness, whether he was dealing drugs or in possession of any ammunition.
“The version is mutually destructive to each other and the allegation by the state witness were outright denied by the accused,” said Josephs.
Sibiya’s sentencing will be on 18 January 2024, and whatever sentence he is handed will be added to the 12-year sentence that he is serving for attempted murder.
