Cape Town – Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) says it is seeking public assistance in locating a 75-year-old British citizen, Micheal John McCullagh, who has been missing since Sunday morning in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
In a statement, Rusa said that McCullagh arrived in South Africa from the Isle of Man and spent a few days in Johannesburg.
He then flew on a local flight and landed at King Shaka International Airport after midnight on Sunday.
“He hired a grey Suzuki Swift with registration number JV61ZPGP from Avis Car Rental and headed towards Durban North. He has not been seen since,” read the statement.
Rusa said that the last contact was made telephonically at around 09:00 on Sunday when McCullagh informed a tow truck driver that he was stuck in a sugar cane field in an unknown place after taking a wrong turn during heavy rain.
“He requested a diet coke to be brought to him during his rescue. The phone disconnected and he has not been heard of since,” Rusa said.
McCullagh is said to be suffering from Parkinson’s disease, a disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors. He is also diabetic.
