Cape Town – The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says a search is under way for a motorist who went missing on Saturday night after his car plunged into the Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West.
According to News24, the Gauteng man had been in his car when it left the road.
He may have been ejected from the vehicle and landed in dense hyacinth in the dam, the report said.
The report quoted NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam station commander Arthur Crewe as saying that when they arrived on the scene, the car was semi-submerged in dense hyacinth in the dam, appearing to have left the roadway at the Randburg Bridge.
A Times Live report said that rescue swimmers confirmed that there were no occupants in the vehicle.
The vehicle was recovered by local towing services, the report said.
“Police divers, assisted by NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam, are continuing in a search for the missing man,” the report quoted Crewe as saying.
