Cape Town – The Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) have reportedly launched a search for a 6-year-old boy who fell into an open manhole in Soweto on Monday.
According to The Citizen, just after 09:30, EMS received a call about a child who had fallen into a manhole. They went to the location in an attempt to locate and rescue the child.
“We can confirm that City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Search and Rescue Unit together with Joburg Water technicians are on site where the child slipped in the manhole.
“At his stage the circumstances behind the incident is subject to an investigation,” said EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi as quoted by the report.

Mulaudzi said in a tweet that the EMS were unable to save the child on Monday.
The search was set to resume on Tuesday.

IOL reported the child was playing with his friends in Dlamini Park in Soweto when he fell into the hole.
The child’s father hoped that his son’s body would be found.
According to the report, the child’s father said that the residents had joined the family in their search for the child’s body.
