Cape Town – A man’s body, initially believed to be that of a missing woman, was recovered near Strandfontein on Saturday morning after being reported missing at Sunrise Beach, Muizenberg, earlier in the week.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said the body, identified by the family, has been handed to forensic authorities.
“The body of a man, identified by family, has been taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and is believed to be the person who went missing in the surf zone at Sunrise Beach, near to Muizenberg, on Monday,” NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.

The search began on Monday after eyewitnesses reported seeing a woman in distress disappearing underwater at Sunrise Beach.
“On arrival on the scene a number of eyewitnesses reported that they suspected that a lady wearing a yellow T-shirt had disappeared underwater in the surf zone,” NSRI said earlier last week.
NSRI rescue teams conducted extensive searches, including free diving and rescue craft efforts, but were unsuccessful in locating the individual until the body was discovered days later.
