Cape Town – A 17-year-old boy is missing at Llandudno Beach after being swept out to sea by a rip current.
Eyewitnesses reported that he was swept off rocks below the Sandy Bay parking area.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) conducted search and rescue operations, along with police diving units, but the teenager has not been found.
“On arrival on the scene an extensive search commenced for a 17-year-old local male who was last seen in heavy sea surf approximately 300 to 400 meters off-shore.
It’s believed the teen had been in shallow surf on rocks on the shoreline with friends when reportedly a wave may have swept him off his feet. Thoughts are with the family and friends of the missing teenager in this difficult time.https://t.co/hdIUvBZWaM

“It appears he had been in shallow surf on rocks on the shoreline with friends when reportedly a wave may have swept him off his feet and we believe he had attempted to swim with sea currents to escape the rocky shoreline.
“Despite an extensive sea, air and shoreline search there remained no sign of the teenager,” the NSRI said.
The rescue institute believes he may have been caught in a wave while on the rocks and attempted to swim with the sea currents.
The search efforts are ongoing, and thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends during this challenging time, it said.
