Cape Town — Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) says it plans to summon former Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter to elaborate on the allegations he made against his former company.
The Citizen reports that SCOPA is gearing up to launch an inquiry based on the allegations made by De Ruyter in an explosive interview with eNCA.
SCOPA chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said others who are implicated in the allegations will also be summoned.
“The allegations that Mr De Ruyter makes will require us not just to engage Mr De Ruyter. He said he spoke to the National Commissioner of Police, right? So my advice is that this does not become a De Ruyter fishing expedition. So he’s not the only one who must appear before the committee,” the report quoted Hlengwa as saying.

According to Daily Maverick, the SAPS national commissioner, Lieutenant-General Fannie Masemola, Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke, Eskom executives and the board, and ministers may also appear alongside De Ruyter in SCOPA’s investigation.

ANC Secretary-general Fikile Mbalula revealed last week that his party had served Eskom and Andre de Ruyter with legal papers.
“We think that there is something illegal committed by De Ruyter. The ANC is a political party that has not instructed anyone to go to Eskom and mess things up,” Mbalula said.
The former CEO was given a deadline of 7 days to respond, or the ANC “will take further steps”.
