Cape Town – A matric pupil from KwaZulu-Natal who applied for an identity document at Home Affairs was shocked to receive a death certificate instead of the ID they applied for.
Briefly reported that the student applied for the ID in February. He went to fetch it in March, but was shocked to receive a death certificate stating that he died of “natural causes” in Gauteng.
In a now-deleted Facebook post, the pupil’s concerned teacher revealed that the learner was alive and had become distracted from his schoolwork as a result of the discovery.

“I am his teacher since grade 10. The boy is here. He is alive. He is learning on a daily basis, but this situation is so bad that I can see he is getting distracted from his books,” Times Live quoted the teacher as saying.
KwaZulu-Natal Home Affairs manager Cyril Mncwabe confirmed that the error had been corrected and that the pupil had received his ID document, said the report.
