Cape Town – A South African school teacher and well-known sports coach, who was reportedly arrested for child pornography in Australia, has allegedly been deported back to South Africa.
IOL reported in March last year that Dean Carelse was arrested after police seized child pornography material from his home in Queensland, Australia.
He was convicted of being in possession of child exploitation pictures, including 14 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16.
News24 reported that Carelse was back at his mother’s home in Gqeberha after arriving in the country in September.
The report said he allegedly refused to speak about the matter and referred to it as the past.

Since his return to South Africa, he kept a low profile, the report said.
The former sports coach was arrested in March 2021 after police raided his home in Mooloolaba, Australia and seized several items, ABC News reported.
Carelse had more than 2 000 pictures of child exploitation pictures on his phone, some, of students’ genitals in their togs, the report said.
During court proceedings, his attorney Ben Powers blamed his client’s “shameful” behaviour on loneliness.
Powers said Carelse could not fully explain his offending but said it came at a time of loneliness, and said the accused developed “an unhealthy and improper adoration” of the boy he groomed.
