Cape Town – A “bogus doctor”, Kingsley Leeto Chele, has reportedly been rearrested by Gauteng police after escaping from custody.
Chele is accused of posing as a doctor or pharmacist on Facebook and defrauding women by convincing them to invest in fake projects, police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo as saying.
“He went by the names Dr Kingsley Chele or Dr KJ Ncube,” he said.
Chele was initially arrested on October 2 for two cases of fraud but escaped custody on October 11 while his property was being cataloged.
“The accused was rearrested in the early hours of the morning on Monday, 16 October 2023, in Vosloorus. The arrest was as a result of information and tip-off received from one of the media houses following a media statement issued about the wanted fugitive.
The police, in collaboration with the asset forfeiture unit, aimed to attach his assets believed to be proceeds of crime, including a 2023 VW Golf GTI.
“The suspect, whose country of birth is yet to be confirmed, is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 October 2023. A charge of escaping from lawful custody will be added to the charges that he was already facing,”
