Cape Town — A South African Police Services (SAPS) Sergeant from Limpopo has been arrested after he allegedly killed his wife and domestic worker at their home in Masisi in Vhembe.
In a statement, police revealed the incident occurred on the evening on Wednesday 29 October 2024 and the Sergeant had been on the run since then until he was arrested on Thursday evening.
“The suspect was located in the Makuya policing area after a well-co-ordinated operation by Vhembe SAPS District Task team members. He was spotted driving at high speed along Tshitavha road next to Sambandou bridge,” police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, said.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle when the suspect started firing shots at them, which prompted police to respond swiftly. The suspect was wounded in the shootout where one police officer sustained minor injuries. Police recovered a service pistol and ammunition.

The suspect and the injured officer were taken to hospital for treatment and the Investigative Police Independent Directorate (IPID) has been notified for further handling of the case following the shooting ordeal.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the rapid response of members in Vhembe district.
“We wish the injured member a speedy recovery and assure the public that the suspect will face the full consequences of his actions, particularly for his refusal to surrender and the violence he displayed towards our officers. A special appreciation goes to our members for ensuring that the suspect is apprehended swiftly. This case will be monitored closely to ensure justice is served,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Masisi Magistrate’s Court soon, facing two counts of murder and attempted murder.
