Johannesburg — The South African Police Services (SAPS) are currently investigating the robbery of a jewellery store in Cresta Shopping Mall in Johannesburg after 11 armed robbers entered the mall wielding guns.
It is believed that the men entered the mall on Saturday afternoon and fired off four shots, but fortunately no one was wounded. The robbers targeted the Bello Jewellers and stole accessories on display. Police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili, did not disclose the value of the stolen goods. She said the group managed to escape from the crime scene, according to reports by EWN and SABC News.
“Linden responded to a business robbery incident at Cresta Mall just before midday. It is reported that about 11 unknown suspects, some of them armed with handguns, stormed into a jewellery store. The suspects started breaking the store’s glass counters with a crowbar and a hammer to gain access to the displayed jewellery” she said.
“The suspects fired shots randomly while fleeing to their getaway vehicles, a white Jetta and a silver Toyota Etios. No injuries were reported, and the station’s Trio Crime Unit is investigating a case of business robbery.” she added.
