Cape Town — The South African Police Services (SAPS) is pleased to announce that 10 000 new recruits have been selected for the 2024/25 financial year.
In a SAPS statement, 4 500 trainees are set to report to training at various SAPS academies starting on Monday 22 April 2024. A second batch of new 5 500 new recruits will start their training in January 2025.
Police said the training process is yet to be finalised and applicants have been told to remain patient and await communications from SAPS.
“It’s important to note that all those who underwent all the recruitment stages and were successful, will be notified in writing to report for training. The recruitment and selection of suitable candidates who conform to all the basic requirements is of paramount importance to the continued success of the work and mandate of the SAPS.” Brigadier Athlena Mathe said.
Mathe added that the final selection is based on merit and the process does not consider any bias, nepotism or discrimination.

“Upon completing the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP), the newly trained Constables will reinforce policing capacity at high-crime stations, detective units and specialised units-such as Public Order Policing (POPs).” Mathe said.
The new selection process comes after president Cyril Ramaphosa called for enhanced police capacity to fight crime in the country. This led to the new recruitment process known as Project 10 000.
“The SAPS has in the last two years trained and deployed 20 000 police officers to stations and units to bolster policing and efforts to prevent and combat crime. Best wishes are extended to the new recruits by SAPS management on their forthcoming enlistment.” Mathe added
