Johannesburg — The City of Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) revealed a sanitation worker died while working in a sewer manhole in Johannesburg.
City of Joburg EMS spokesperson, Nana Radebe-Kgiba, said they had responded to a call around 1 in the afternoon on Monday and found medical services on the scene, IOL reported.
Vision Tactical, a security company, said the man’s body was discovered after EMS responded to a call saying a sanitation worker was trapped in a sewer line. Vision Tactical confirmed the death on Facebook.
“Sadly, he lost his life due to methane gas inhalation. Our deepest condolences to his family and colleagues. This tragedy highlights the dangers faced by those maintaining vital infrastructure,” Vision Tactical said.
