Cape Town – South African Airways (SAA) pilots have reportedly accepted a revised salary and benefits package, ending the work-to-rule industrial action.
This resolution concludes the 2024 wage negotiations for the pilots’ bargaining unit.
According to IOL, SAA Group CEO, Prof M John Lamola, expressed satisfaction with the pilots’ decision, highlighting their dedication to the airline’s success.
“We are pleased to see the pilots recommit to their roles and return to the flight deck, underscoring their dedication to the airline’s success over the years to come,” the report quoted Lamola as saying.
Reports indicated last week that the pilots had remained on strike after wage talks between the SAA Pilot’s Union (SAAPA) and the National Transport Movement collapsed.
This marks the second time in just four months that SAA pilots had gone on strike over wage negotiations following a disruptive strike, but they resumed services after just two days.
The pilots were on a “work to rule” strike, meaning staff on the ground were working according to office hours, which could lead to further disruptions. Meanwhile, The Citizen reported.
