Cape Town — A solo French sailor, Emmanuel Dailler, 56, who left Cape Town on 2 March 2 on his South African-registered yacht has been reported missing off the West Coast.
TimesLIVE reports that Dailler left the Mother City on his 37ft SV AKELA II which left Hout Bay en route to Martinique in the French Caribbean.
Maritime authorities are concerned as he is overdue and fear that he may be missing at sea.
SA People News reports that the National Sea Rescue Institue (NSRI) described the AKELA II as being plain white with no yacht name appearing on the hull. It further reported that it only has marine VHF radio communications onboard.
“NSRI, in co-operation with the SA Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, are appealing to seafarers on the Atlantic coast, islands across the Atlantic coast and West Africa coastal ports, to keep a lookout and report any sightings or contact with AKELA II,” NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon was quoted as saying
“The last known contact with Mr Dailler was on his departure from Hout Bay Yacht Club.”
