Cape Town – Tributes are pouring in on social media following news of the murder of retired journalist and editor Jeremy Gordin on Friday night.
Gordin was reportedly killed at his home in Parkview, Johannesburg during a robbery.
According to News24, Gordin’s family were in Cape Town at the time, and grew concerned when he was not responding to messages on Friday night.
The report said a friend gained access to the house and found it locked from the outside.
The house was ransacked and his body was covered.
Gordin’s wife Deborah could not provide much information but said his car had been stolen, adding that she was speaking to the police, the report said.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed a case of house robbery and murder had been opened, reports TimesLIVE.

He said no arrests had been made yet.
An innvestigation and manhunt for the suspects were under way.
The report said Gordin was born in 1952 in Pretoria and educated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as well as Unisa before starting his journalism career in 1976.
He is survived by his wife Deborah and two children, Jake and Nina.
The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) has expressed its shock at the death of Gordin who ran a justice project at Wits University’s School of Journalism after his retirement, reported SABC News.
“On behalf of Sanef, we are devastated …We really didn’t expect this and it just goes to show the level of crime in the country and the level of how someone’s life can be easily taken in South Africa. So, in terms of Sanef, we are devastated in terms of that. On a personal level, I worked with Mr Gordin at the Daily Sun in my time as editor and he was nothing but a fantastic mentor and fantastic,” the report quoted Sanef’s executive director and Gordin’s former colleague Reggy Moalusi as saying.
