Cape Town – Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, has expressed a strong commitment to expanding the country’s bilateral trade with Vietnam.
During an official visit by Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan to South Africa on Friday, Mashatile expressed the desire to increase exports to Vietnam, emphasising the potential for growth.
South Africa is exploring opportunities to supply Vietnam with agricultural agro-processing products and coal.
While noting progress in bilateral relations, Mashatile acknowledged room for improvement and expressed interest in collaborating with Vietnam on peace initiatives in Africa, noting Vietnam’s support for South African peace efforts.

The two countries are commemorating 30 years of diplomatic ties, aiming to strengthen their multifaceted partnership and consolidate friendship ties.
Mashatile expressed optimism about the continued growth of their partnership and emphasised the importance of deepening economic ties to promote job creation and reduce inequality.
“South Africa has prioritised new investments as a source of economic growth stimulation with a view to create jobs and reduce poverty and inequality by promoting investment, improving our competitiveness, and leveraging technology and innovation.
“Your presence here highlights the importance that both our countries attach to deepening and broadening our existing bilateral relations, especially in growing our trade and economic ties,” said Mashatile.
