Cape Town – South Africa recorded a total number of 14 828 new Covid-19 cases on Christmas Day, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 3 407 934, the National Department of Health said on Saturday.
At least 30 Covid-19 related deaths were also recorded, bringing the total number of fatalities to 90 773 since the pandemic hit the country.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 407 934 with 14 828 new cases reported. Today 30 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 90 773 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 102 717 with a recovery rate of 91,0%,” the department said in a statement.

According to the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD), 57 643 tests were conducted with a positivity rate of 25.7%
The latest data shows that the Western Cape overtook KwaZulu-Natal as the epicenter, as it accounted for the majority of cases.
The Western Cape accounted for 3 749 cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (3 601), and Gauteng (2 769).
At the least, taking over from Nothern Cape is Limpopo with just 487 new cases.
