Cape Town – The chairperson of the South African Medical Association (SAMA), Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa, was reportedly attacked and stabbed while driving home from Durban’s King Shaka International Airport on Saturday.
Reports said that Mzukwa, who was stabbed several times, drove himself to hospital after the incident.
According to Times Live, Deputy Health Minister Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo visited Mzukwa in hospital on Sunday and he said he was recovering well.
“I was very heartened to find him on his recovery bed and commended him for his heroic action of driving himself while bleeding and in pain to the nearest hospital to save his life, because had he waited a bit longer, his condition could have deteriorated,” the report quoted Dhlomo as saying.
A SAMA statement said that Mzukwa sustained multiple stab wounds on his chest, New24 reported, adding that he was discovered by Metro Police who assisted him to reach the emergency department at a nearby hospital.
