Cape Town – The Department of Home Affairs says services at its offices have been restored after its systems went offline countrywide on Friday.
The incident was caused by “a cable breakage which connects to the State Information Technology Agency (SITA). A team of Home Affairs and SITA technicians is working tirelessly to ensure that the cable breakage is resolved”, the department said.

According to Times Live, SITA was able to fix the cable, thus, restoring the service.
Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has since instructed the Department to extend operating hours to ensure that all clients that visited the offices on Friday are served.
Motsoaledi apologised for the inconvenience and said the department owed it to the public to extend operating hours due to the “unfortunate network failure incident”, IOL reported.
