Cape Town – The African National Congress (ANC) in Western Cape has reportedly called on Premier Alan Winde and the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) to remove former MEC for Community Safety Alberts Fritz as a member of the legislature.
“It’s useless to remove him as an MEC and keep him on the payroll as a member of the legislature. We call on the victims to lay criminal charges so that he’s answerable for his behaviour which cannot be tolerated anymore,” EWN quoted ANC’s Sifiso Mtsweni as saying.
Winde on Tuesday fired Fritz from his position after an independent probe found sufficient evidence in the allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
“This morning I informed Albert Fritz of my decision to remove him from the provincial executive cabinet, effective immediately.

“I made this decision after receiving a report from Advocate Jennifer Williams following the finalisation of her independent investigation to test the veracity of several allegations that were made against him, which led to his suspension last month,” said Winde in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Good Party demanded answers, saying the matter was a sex-for-jobs scandal.
“In order for an MEC to secure jobs for people, he would need the assistance of managers and senior managers, so there’s a lot of unanswered questions about who else is involved, how the MEC managed to place young women in jobs without it raising any questions,” Good Party Brett Herron said, according to EWN.
Fritz himself resigned from his position as DA party leader in the province on Tuesday.

According to News24, this came after he was given 24 hours to provide the DA with reasons why he should not be suspended.
“The DA in the Western Cape notes the resignation of Albert Fritz as provincial leader and as a member of the party. This means that the provincial leader position is vacant and will be filled at the next provincial council meeting scheduled for May 2022,” the report quoted DA Western Cape provincial chairperson Jaco Londt as saying.
Fritz sent his resignation letter to the chairperson of the federal council, Helen Zille, the report said.
