Cape Town – Amid increasing pressure on President Cyril Ramaphosa from business, health, and unions concerning the National Health Insurance (NHI) plan, the public has been urged not to panic.
According to SABC News, the presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said on Wednesday that Ramaphosa “will not merely rubber stamp Parliament’s work on the National Health Insurance Bill”.

Magwenya was speaking shortly before the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) convened to determine the fate of the Bill, a session that ultimately postponed the voting to December 6.
The NHI Bill, introduced in 2019, has already passed through parliament, but concerns have been raised by various stakeholders.
“Concerns have been expressed directly to the president with respect to certain parts of the Bill.
“One of the things that he will look at is, has there been sufficient consultation and, if so, have those consultations sufficiently addressed the issues of concern?,” The Citizen quoted Magwenya as saying.
