Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa is visiting the community of Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, in response to a cholera outbreak that has resulted in at least 26 deaths nationwide.
Accompanied by several ministers and deputy ministers, including the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Minister of Health, and the Minister of Water and Sanitation, the president aims to assess the situation and engage with the community regarding the government’s efforts to contain the spread of cholera.
He has previously emphasised that ending the outbreak and ensuring safe water for all are the government’s top priorities.
Ramaphosa has also highlighted the importance of effective water and wastewater management in preventing similar incidents.
“The outbreak of cholera in the community of Hammanskraal has caused devastation, and the three spheres of government and their agencies and non-governmental organisations have been seized with instituting mitigating measures to contain the spread of cholera,” he said in a statement ahead of the visit.
