Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa sent a message to incoming USA President, Donald Trump, who was elected as president for a second time during the 2024 elections.
Trump, representing the Republicans, beat out the Democrats’ Kamala Harris, who sought to become the first woman president in US history. In what was a tightly contested vote, Trump received 279 votes compared to Harris’ 223 votes.
While many other global leaders congratulated Trump on his re-election, including France President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Ramaphosa was the latest to wish Trump well and expressed his excitement to work with Trump during the G20 Summit in 2025.
“Congratulations to United States President-Elect Donald Trump on your return to presidency. I look forward to continuing the close and mutually beneficial partnership between our two nations across all domains of our cooperation. In the global arena, we look forward to our Presidency of the G20 in 2025, where we will work closely with the US who will succeed us in the G20 Presidency in 2026,” he said.

Following his re-election, Trump exclaimed that “history has been made”.
“Frankly, this was I believe the greatest political movement of all time. There hasn’t been anything like this in this country and maybe beyond. Now it’s going to reach a new level of importance because we’re going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help and it needs help very badly,” he said during the rally.
“We’re gonna fix our borders and fix everything about our country,” Trump added.
