Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa, as the Commander-in-Chief of South Africa’s armed forces, has expressed his sadness at the deaths of six soldiers who perished in a fire at the SA Army Combat Training Centre in the Lohatla military base.
The incident occurred during a military exercise named Vukuhlome.
The fire, which originally started in Khathu in the Gamagara Local Municipality, spread to the military base, resulting in the loss of six soldiers’ lives, injuries to three others, and damage to army equipment, including vehicles.
Ramaphosa has extended his deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased soldiers.
“The President wishes the injured SANDF members a speedy and comfortable recovery and his thoughts are with survivors who witnessed this tragedy,” said the Presidency.
