Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa, commended the matric class of 2023, saying they made the nation very proud following their excellent pass rate of 82.9%, the highest in the democratic era.
Ramaphosa said the unprecedented success of the 2023 class showed the determination and ambition of the learners and also a nation that values it’s youth, the Presidency said.
He extended his congratulations to the learners, the teachers, parents, school governing bodies and health care providers for the way they carried the learners through the Covid-19 pandemic when they were in earlier grades.
“The Class of 2023 has given itself and the nation great cause for pride and belief that our investment in education is the key to moving our country forward. The 2023 matric results show that we are a nation that takes care of its young people and that our young people are taking care of their future through their resilience and their dedication to learning.,” Ramaphosa said.

According to EWN, Ramaphosa said the 2023 class’s impressive pass rate was proof that the education system in South Africa was steadily improving.
“To achieve an 82.9% pass rate for matriculants, whether they are for bachelors, diplomas or matric certificate, it’s a phenomenal achievement. We should be proud as a nation to have a cohort of young people like them.”
“The matric results are an irrefutable indicator of our comprehensive national development during 30 years of freedom and democracy. Our success in education must motivate us to achieve even greater things in all areas of our development.” Ramaphosa added.
