Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa has hinted that at his next State of the Nation (SONA) speech, he will announce new infrastructure projects.
Among the other issues to address, Ramaphosa said the logistics crisis remains an important issue, while during his 2023 address, he spoke about issues of high cost of living and how the government plans to cushion the poor, vulnerable, and unemployed. He added that the infrastructure projects would help solve the housing issue, IOL wrote.
The president was speaking at the ANC manifesto review in Ekurhuleni on Friday where he acknowledged the Transnet crisis and said the investment in infrastructure projects has been declining over the years, but they will now ramp it up.
Ramaphosa said he plans to replicate the Gauteng government’s mass employment plan across all provinces in the country, as he and his governance seeks to create thousands of jobs in South Africa.
Government recently welcomed the increase in employment as per the 3rd quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) provided by Statistics SA, which increased by 2.6% – a total of 256 000 jobs from September 2022 to September 2023.
“Government has also noted that both increases in employment and gross earnings have been driven by sectors that are critical to South Africa’s economic growth, namely by trade, mining, transport, electricity industries and community services. In addition, the contribution of business services, manufacturing, and construction in the increase in gross earnings is a positive development,” Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said.
